AnQore has entered into a long term agreement for the offtake of Dutch wind energy from a new windfarm in the Netherlands. This project will increase the pool of renewable energy in the Netherlands. Renewable wind energy is especially interesting for AnQore, because the windmill blades are entirely made from carbon fiber composites. Carbon fiber itself is made entirely from acrylonitrile. With AnQore producing acrylonitrile it stands at the base of its own renewable electricity.
Next to the long term contract for Dutch wind energy AnQore will seek to grow its offtake of renewable energy from new projects in The Netherlands. These types of projects take time and growing demand for renewable energy is essential to make sure these projects get build. Therefore AnQore purchases green certificates from existing renewable projects for the remainder of its electricity needs. As a result AnQore is the world’s first acrylonitrile producer with 100% renewable electricity.
Sjoerd Zuidema, director Purchasing and Supply Chain explains: “At AnQore we are part of the frontrunners of the chemical industry. Back in 2019 we were the first producer in the world to introduce a completely sustainable alternative to fossil acrylonitrile. This alternative is the 100% ISCCplus certified Econitrile. This Econitrile is today being used to produce sustainable parts for electrics, toys and water treatment chemicals. Second, only last week we learned that EcoVadis awarded us with a gold score. This independent business sustainability auditor places AnQore in the top 6% of global chemical companies they audited. For AnQore sustainability is crucial to remain successful and the 100% renewable energy takes us another step closer to a CO2 neutral industry.”
